Create your own adventure, contribute, collaborate and give back!

When we start?

November to January, 2026

Why join?

Make an impact, together

Whether you’re a developer, engineer, or a curious person, this is a chance to grow, give back, and share the ride with others who care about the future of video-tech.

  • Learn from peers while building something real and useful

  • Connect with the global media-tech community

  • Explore and test new ideas in a safe, collaborative space

  • Get visibility at meetups like Demuxed or during Summer Week in Montevideo

Project Criteria

What your project must include to be awesome

We’re looking for ideas that solve real problems, bring people together, and leave something valuable behind. Don’t worry if it’s not perfect — we’ll help you shape it.

  • 3 months of collaboration (Nov–Jan), with flexible, async work and one weekly sync to keep things moving and aligned.

  • Two key roles: a tech sponsor to guide the project, and an industry supporter to validate the challenge.

  • Open-source impact: Projects must be public, documented, and aimed at the media & video ecosystem.

Our past projects

Summer Projects Contributions

Since 2023, we’ve developed projects that have left a lasting impact on the industry. Summer Projects, participants collaborate over 3 months on impactful open-source initiatives, diving deep into new technologies, methodologies, and video industry solutions.

Supported by a team of experts from Qualabs and global industry leaders, this initiative offers a unique opportunity to learn, connect with video enthusiasts, and make meaningful contributions to the community.

2025

MoQ Player

Build a basic player capable of handling fMP4 and LOC formats using the Media over QUIC protocol. It will focus on features like adaptive bitrate (ABR) ladder auto-selection, requiring a rethinking of standard HLS/DASH functionalities to suit the low-latency environment MoQ offers.

2025

VAST to SGAI Conversion

Develop an open-source tool to convert VAST (XML) files into HLS Interstitials as AssetLists, enabling Server-Guided Ad Insertion (SGAI).
It will integrate with native iOS, hls.js, and ExoPlayer environments, removing the need for costly SSAI solutions

2024

Common Media Library

Creation of a unified library for media playback, enhancing consistency and flexibility across multiple platforms. By standardizing tools and methodologies, CML facilitated the integration and optimization of video workflows, benefiting both developers and end users.

2024

CMAF HAM

Focused on improving workflows based on the Common Media Application Format (CMAF), this project explored new possibilities for efficient media delivery and standards harmonization. CMAF HAM aimed to optimize content delivery, reduce latency, and enhance the user experience on streaming platforms.
