My expectation was to build connections in a more intimate environment — with professionals and friends in the industry. I also wanted to find opportunities to share my knowledge and enjoy. But this has far exceeded my expectations. It’s been enlightening, empowering — and deeply memorable. I’ll definitely come back and bring more people. I knew it was going to be a good time, but it didn’t tamper at all how good a time I had here. I’ve had a fantastic time at Summer Camp. I learned a lot. Met amazing people. I’m coming back next year. The Women’s Empowerment Program was something we don’t normally have time or space for and I had to come to another continent to give myself that space. Zero regrets. Everyone was so welcoming, so friendly, so helpful. I recommend it, but only if you’re a cool person. I only want cool people here.

We have been having an absolutely incredible time… I never had thought that like Latinos and open source fit together so beautifully, it’s such a powerful combo! This is my second time at Montevideo Summer Camp, and once again, it’s been an amazing week! I was really looking forward to reconnecting with people, the mix of professional networking, learning about new technologies, working on projects, and just making friends. I’ve known the Qualabs folks for many years — so I expected amazing hospitality. And it was exceeded by ten times. I also expected to connect with a few of your team members, and that’s been absolutely amazing. The people here — they’re curious, smart, and generous. They give as much as they take. If someone at Demuxed or any conference asked me ‘Why Uruguay?’ — I’d say: because it’s a really special place. More than the video — the hospitality and the people were an experience I’ll never forget.

I talked to Casey beforehand, and he just said: ‘I don’t know how to explain it. You just need to go.’ And he was right. We brought the whole family, it was a stretch for us. But the Qualabs team was incredible: helping us get set up, supporting us as a family! This is a chance to experience a part of the world you might not go to otherwise. To meet people you wouldn’t meet otherwise. It shows you how much bigger the tech community really is and how valuable it is to share ideas and perspectives beyond your bubble.

I hoped it would be close to the wonderful experience I had last time, and it exceeded that! I got to spend more time with the team, actually collaborating on one of the selected projects: Server-guided Ads. There was just so much energy this year. Repeat folks came back, we reconnected. The whole thing grew into something bigger, better, and even more exciting. It’s a beautiful match of tech, culture, and amazing people. All in an environment that really fosters connection. That’s a win-win.

“Honestly, I didn’t have any expectations. I didn’t even do research. I just knew I had to fly out here — my open source project got picked, and I wanted to help out. The open source part was amazing… Why should you come? You spend an amazing time, working on fun projects with great people, in a great place.”
