25th – 30th January, 2027 · Montevideo, Uruguay

It’s summer camp time… This page is still under construction!

Dates? 25th–30th January 2027.

Campers? Filling up.

The shape is already set: three months of remote open source, then that week together in Montevideo — in the middle of our summer.

What we’re still working out is which challenge the whole event is built around.

This edition

One thread, one problem. A whole event around it.

Every year we ask ourselves how to make this better. In 2026 we ran different experiences and each one worked, but looking back at the week, we felt they could add up to more.

This edition the Summer Camp is built around a single thread: the summer projects, technical talks, innovation weekend. Every one of them is a chapter of the same story.

The question we’re asking

What is the next big challenge in media and streaming?

We’re changing the question we ask you. Until now we asked for projects: tell us what you’d like to build. This year we’re asking something bigger.

Not the problems you have today — those have answers: you buy something, you patch it, you live with it. The ones coming in three to five years. Not what’s annoying this quarter; the one that needs five years of runway.

In their words

Two campers telling it themselves

Ing-Ing Yen

“Montevideo is beautiful, the people are so nice and warm and welcoming — and the vibe is just great.”

Barry Owen

“There’s way more things to do than just the US, London, New York, San Francisco. It’s a great community and it exists elsewhere too.”

What campers said

It’s been so great meeting people from all over the world, actually coming down to Uruguay to be open, have conversations about tech, about video. It’s been really fun. We’ve had a lot of local flavour here — and it’s been one of the best weeks in the industry. It’s better than NAB.

Getting to interact and talk to people within the industry that I normally don’t get to see, in a very relaxed scenario, is completely priceless. Getting to describe all the problems and get to know more about what people are dealing with — because in the end we were all dealing with the same exact issues.

I hoped it would be close to the wonderful experience I had last time, and it exceeded that! I got to spend more time with the team, actually collaborating on one of the selected projects: Server-guided Ads. There was just so much energy this year. Repeat folks came back, we reconnected. The whole thing grew into something bigger, better, and even more exciting. It’s a beautiful match of tech, culture, and amazing people. All in an environment that really fosters connection. That’s a win-win.

David Hassoun David Hassoun Seasoned Streaming Media Consultant

My expectation was to build connections in a more intimate environment — with professionals and friends in the industry. I also wanted to find opportunities to share my knowledge and enjoy. But this has far exceeded my expectations. It’s been enlightening, empowering — and deeply memorable. I’ll definitely come back and bring more people. This is an opportunity to do something not just for your job, but for yourself and your career — something beyond your current role.

Connie Huang Connie Huang Software Engineering Manager at WDR

We have been having an absolutely incredible time… I never had thought that like Latinos and open source fit together so beautifully, it’s such a powerful combo! The community and the passion to learn and work together has been the highlight of my career. It’s been a week now of hanging out with friends, learning, coding, tours, beach trips... When I started in software 5 years ago, I could never — even in my wildest dreams — have come up with something like this.

Henry McIntyre Henry McIntyre Sr. Video Software Engineer

This is my second time at Montevideo Summer Camp, and once again, it’s been an amazing week! I was really looking forward to reconnecting with people, the mix of professional networking, learning about new technologies, working on projects, and just making friends. This year felt like a refined, more powerful version of something already great. I’ll definitely keep spreading the gospel of Montevideo Summer Camp. If you work in video and want to learn, connect and create, this is the place to be.
