MonteVIDEO Tech Summer Camp

Summer Camp 2027 · Both calls open on 14 October

Two ways to build with us

Bring the challenge. We build the answer together.

The 2027 thread

Hasta la vista, downtime!

Operating Global Streaming in the Age of Agents

That’s the thread the whole edition hangs from. Both calls below are ways of pulling at it: one builds open source around it, the other turns it into business ideas.

Which one is yours?

Every edition of Summer Camp starts with a challenge someone lives every day. This year there are two ways to bring yours, and each one has its own call.

The whole 2027 edition runs under one theme: Hasta la vista, downtime! — Operating Global Streaming in the Age of Agents. It moves through these three verticals, and both calls live inside them. In each one the question is the same: where do agents come in?

Live Engineering & Operations

Everything it takes to build the pipeline and keep it running: engineering is the art of building the tools, operations the art of keeping them alive.

  • Encoding and transport
  • Remote and cloud production, low-latency contribution, teams spread across countries
  • Monitoring and observability of distributed operations, 24/7 live workflows
  • Multi-region delivery, CDN cost and latency
  • AI copilots that help teams operate live

Global Accessibility

How content reaches every audience in the world, in their language, on their screen and in their market.

  • Live captions, translation and dubbing, audio description, sign language
  • Content discovery, metadata and recommendations by region
  • Rights, blackouts and availability by country
  • A consistent experience across devices, markets and low-connectivity networks
  • Provenance of content that travels between countries

Monetization

How global scale turns into a sustainable business.

  • Local advertising, ad insertion by region and FAST channels
  • Measurement across platforms, QoE by country, data and personalization
  • Content protection and piracy across borders
  • Cost per stream and infrastructure efficiency

Summer Projects Track

Engineers, builders and video enthusiasts

Open-source projects the community builds together. One call a week plus async work, from November to January, closing at the Demo Day, on 3 February during Summer Week in Montevideo.

Summer Projects Track

Bring the challenge, we build the answer together. Any challenge that fits the spirit of the edition is welcome. It doesn’t have to be fully formed when it reaches us — working out what the problem really is comes first.

We’ve been doing this every summer since 2023, and the reason is simple: none of us got here alone. Everything we use at work was built by someone who decided to share it. So whatever a Summer Project builds goes back out the same way, open source — and that part never changes.

Who it’s for

  • Tech Sponsor

Support technically, help unblock, join the weekly syncs.

Every project has one, from the kickoff to the Demo Day.

  • Industry Supporter

Help validate the problem and guide impact.

An organization that needs the thing built and can try it in production.

  • Contributor

Join an existing project and help build something that matters.

You can propose a challenge and end up building someone else’s. Most people do.

What a good proposal looks like

Summer Project 2026

Real-time MoQ

The problem MoQ is an emerging standard and plenty of people are interested, but it’s hard to actually try.

The proposal Implement three or four pieces that lower the barrier to adoption: MoQ in OBS, an easy way to turn HLS into MoQ, and so on.

Summer Project 2026

AI Co-Pilot for archives

The problem SMPTE holds an enormous archive, and it’s very hard to know what’s in there or to build anything new on top of it.

The proposal A copilot over that archive, so anyone can understand the history of video without digging through it by hand.

Innovation Challenge

A call for first-time founders and for people from across the media industry who want to work on the business challenges our industry faces today. Over 4 to 6 remote sessions you find a problem worth solving, form a team around it and build a business model.

Mentors from the industry join along the way, and the Qualabs team helps build the prototypes. You don’t need an idea, or a company, or a deck.

Same thread as the rest of the camp, seen from the business side: what streaming in the age of agents costs, who pays for it and where the money is.

Who it’s for

MTV connects first-time founders from Uruguay and LATAM with the media community we already know.

  • First-time founders

You know the media industry and want to start something of your own.

No company, no deck, no co-founder. Come alone if you need to; teams form along the way.

  • Industry people

Product, business and engineering profiles who live these challenges.

You bring what the problem actually costs: in money, in time, in people.

  • Mentors and advisors

Experienced people who want to guide the teams.

A few hours across the sessions, where your scar tissue saves someone months.

  • Students

Studying engineering, design or product, and looking for something real to build.

You join a team as a builder, next to people who do this for a living.

    Teams at work

Teams form around the problems and build a business model, over 4 to 6 sessions.

    MTV Night

The teams pitch to investors and industry leaders, over dinner.

What the sessions look like

  1. Find the problems You bring the problems you see in your own operation, or we find them together. Executives then validate which ones are worth the work.
  2. Understand them Each team interviews three executives who live the problem, to learn what it really costs them.
  3. Shape the value proposition Who has the problem, who would pay to solve it, and what a fix has to do to be worth it.
  4. Build the business model A first business model canvas, concrete enough for a startup to start iterating on it. The Qualabs team and the mentors work alongside yours.
  5. Prepare the pitch Mentors help you turn it into the story you tell at the MTV Night.
